On the evening of February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old unarmed black young man, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman in the central Florida town of Sanford. Zimmerman, head of the neighborhood watch, dialed 911 because he thought the young man looked suspicious. He was told by a 911 operator not to pursue the young man and to wait until the police arrived. Zimmerman ignored the operator, pursued Martin, shot and killed him and no charges have been brought up against Zimmerman because local law enforcement agreed that he “acted in self defense.” Zimmerman described Martin as someone who looked like they were “up to no good,” even though Martin was unarmed and only carried a bag of candy and a drink.

We march to mourn Trayvon, to show his family that we are in solidarity with them in their pursuit for justice and to bring world attention to how our society devalues Black and Brown bodies. These types of injustices did not die with our ancestors, it is alive in 2012. We will not sit by quietly and allow these injustices to continue.

I’ve noticed a trend. When I post to my Facebook page about gay cats, or my friend Sacha (a boy) trying out for the Denver Broncos cheerleaders, or bacon, my Facebook friends respond with comments and likes all across the board. That is to say, the friends who respond are…

Here’s a nomination for the scariest and sketchiest hike in the world.
I think it’s a picture of a path called El Caminito Del Rey in Spain. The Youtube clips of the hike are equally
impressivecrazy. From what I’ve found, it’s now closed. Have any of you been there?

This past week I was honored enough to get to work with Trannywood again so early in the new year, best way to start right. This time around I was lucky enough to get to photograph StudSlayer & Papi Coxx.
Both were just simply amazing. Really awesome people and really great performers, really not a bad photograph in the bunch.
I know you’re all dying to see the photos, so here they are. Of course warned though that these are NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!!!

Frenchie Davis singing “Home” from The Wiz.
Remarkable. Gave me chills.
Alie arrived at our 1st-grade classroom wearing a sweatshirt with a hood. I asked her to take off her hood, and she refused. I thought she was just being difficult and ignored it. After breakfast we got in line for art, and I noticed that she still had not removed her hood. When we arrived at the art room, I said: “Allie, I’m not playing. It’s time for art. The rule is no hoods or hats in school.”
She looked up with tears in her eyes and I realized there was something wrong. Her classmates went into the art room and we moved to the art storage area so her classmates wouldn’t hear our conversation. I softened my tone and asked her if she’d like to tell me what was wrong.
“My ponytail,” she cried.
“Can I see?” I asked.
She nodded and pulled down her hood. Allie’s braids had come undone overnight and there hadn’t been time to redo them in the morning, so they had to be put back in a ponytail. It was high up on the back of her head like those of many girls in our class, but I could see that to Allie it just felt wrong. With Allie’s permission, I took the elastic out and re-braided her hair so it could hang down.
“How’s that?” I asked.
She smiled. “Good,” she said and skipped off to join her friends in art.
